A 67-year-old man has been booked for rash driving after he allegedly rammed his car into a woman and then hit a tree on Sunday at Jogeshwari. The accused, identified as Vijay Haate, was driving his Etios car when he hit a 24-year-old woman identified as Sayali Rane, who was on her way back from a tuition class. The accident was so intense that she was flung 10 feet off the ground and then hit a tree before landing on the footpath. Haate too rammed his car into a tree and injured himself. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.

Onlookers rushed to the spot and took both Rane and Haate to the Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri. While Haate escaped with a few bruises, Rane has reportedly slipped into a coma. The MIDC police has booked Haate, but he has been let out on bail since it was a bailable offence.

Haate, a Kandivali resident, was on her way back home when the incident occured. Police said the rear tyre of Haate's car had burst which made him lose control.
