A quiet confrontation seems to be building on between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS as the prime minister made it clear on Tuesday that any decision on bringing an Ordinance on Ram temple can be considered only after the judicial process gets over. The prime minister’s statement comes in the wake an elaborate campaign that the VHP, an affiliate of the RSS, has planned to build for the Ram Temple in the run-up to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. VHP acting International Kumar told Daily Post that the VHP would soon be organising public
meetings at the Lok Sabha constituency-levels to build a public opinion in favour of the temple construction. In an interview to a news agency Modi suggested that the judicial process was being slowed down because Congress lawyers were creating “obstacles” in the Supreme Court. “We have said in our BJP manifesto that a solution would be found to this issue under the ambit of the Constitution,” the Prime Minister said.In his Vijaydashmi address last year RSS sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat had raked up the issue saying that “people are questioning why the temple is not being built despite their chosen government in power,” he said. “The temple should have been built by now, but political parties are doing politics over it,” the RSS chief said. The Sangh Parivar organisations have expressed unhappiness over the delay in resolving the matter and there are demanding to promulgate an Ordinance, similar to the one issued on Triple Talaq, to facilitate construction of a temple. The demand for an Ordinance has been articulated even by BJP’s ally, the Shiv Sena. A s k e d w h e t h e r the government could c o n s i d e r issuing an Ordinance on Ram t e m p l e , the Prime M i n i s t e r pointed out that the matter is before the Supreme Court and possibly in the final stages. “Let the judicial process be over. After the judicial process is over, whatever will be our responsibility as the government, we are ready to make all efforts,” he added.
