MADURAI: M Krishnan, who took charge as the 17th vice-chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University on Wednesday, said his main duty is to restore the glory of the institution which has been marred by some recent problems and controversies.

Krishnan said he would study the problems the university is facing and rectify them in a month’s time. He sought the help of students and media to rebuild the image of the university.

The vice-chancellor said he was born in a village and had gone to make strides in the field of education by carrying out research in 22 countries. “With the help of an excellent faculty in Madurai Kamaraj University, efforts would be taken to bring out more research papers,” he said.

After assuming office as MKU vice-chancellor, Krishnan garlanded the statue of late Tamil Nadu chief minister K Kamaraj on the university premises.
