MUMBAI: A 55-year-old man committed suicide by jumping before a running train at Malad late on Sunday. Milind Lokhande, the deceased, was suffering from a mental health condition for the past three years, his family told the police. He was also seeking treatment from a psychiatrist.
"Around 11.30pm on Sunday, a man jumped before a running Borivali local on Malad's platform no. 1. After we were informed, the victim was moved to the Shatabdi Hospital where doctors declared him dead. He was later identified as Lokhande," said a GRP officer. No suicide note was found.
When the GRP informed Lokhande's family, they learnt that he had attempted suicide earlier as well. "In 2017, Lokhande had consumed poison and tried to end his life. He survived as he was admitted to the Shatabdi Hospital on time and was treated," a police officer said. Lokhande was a former BMC employee. He lived in Malad West with his wife and son. The GRP sent his body for an autopsy and then handed it to his son for last rites. A case of accidental death was recorded by the Borivali GRP.
