1 dead, 4 hurt as groups clash with knives, rods in Delhi's Bindapur

NEW DELHI: There was high drama in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur on Tuesday night when around 10 men clashed with knives and rods, leading to the death of a 30-year-old man and severe injuries to four others.
The situation escalated after an argument broke out between two friends, Akash and Vishal, who were drinking. The argument turned into a scuffle, both men called in their friends who joined the fight.

By the time the police reached the spot, many people, including passers-by who tried to intervene, were injured. A case has been registered but the cops are yet to make any arrests.

Senior police officers confirmed the incident and said that the deceased has been identified as Sumit, while the injured men have been identified as Shami, another man also named Sumit, Raja and Mohit. A case of murder, attempt to murder and causing hurt has been registered.


Early investigation into the case revealed that the two men were drinking in a park in Bindapur when one of them accused the other of stealing his motorcycle keys, leading to the scuffle. Both the inebriated men then called in their friends to settle scores.


Some of the men came armed with knives. The victim Sumit, who was also involved in the fight, was stabbed multiple times along with the other four. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.


Following the incident, the rest of the accused fled. The teams are scanning through the CCTV footage of the area to ascertain the exact sequence of events and are awaiting the statements of Shami, Raja, Sumit and Mohit.
