Retired cop offered lift by four, robbed of Rs 38,000
TNN | Jan 2, 2019, 07:00 ISTNoida: A retired sub-inspector was robbed of Rs 38,000 cash by four persons who offered him a lift to Greater Noida on Tuesday. The men also removed the battery of his mobile phone before dropping him near Bakhtawarpur in Noida.
The victim has been identified as Suresh Chand from Sambhal. Around 11am, he was waiting for a bus at Sector 37 intersection to travel to Chandausi when the four men offered him a lift. “I did not get a bus despite standing there for a while. Suddenly, a white Santro car turned up in which four persons were already seated inside. They offered me a ride till Pari Chowk suggesting that many buses for Chandausi can be taken from there,” he said.
Suresh, who has been earlier posted at Expressway, sectors 39 and 49 police stations, told TOI that as soon as the car reached Mahamaya flyover, the man driving the car took the service road rather than the Expressway. “I got suspicious when he took the service road and asked him to drop me immediately. However, one of the assailants said that we all should check each other’s clothing to ensure that all of us were genuine travellers,” he said.
“Two of them then started searching me and took out Rs. 38,000 cash I was carrying. They also took away my Samsung phone and handed it over after removing the battery so that I cannot contact anyone,” he said.
Suresh said he was also badly beaten up by assailants who left him at the underpass near Bakhtawarpur in Sector 127.
Uday Pratap, SHO of Sector 39 police station said, “An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under IPC Section 392 (robbery).”
