Congress president Rahul Gandhi had started it. Now, Congress-ruled states have started to demand that the BJP-led Union government should replicate the Congress manifesto promise and waive off loans taken by farmers across the country.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has put up a similar demand asking the Centre to waive farm loans. Gehlot exexmplified the waivers announced by the state governments in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to drive home his point to the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
“The NDA government should consider waiving off loans taken by farmers like we did,” Gehlot said. The Rajasthan government is planning a kisan (farmers’) rally in the state soon. The rally would be taken out to address the issues of the farmers and take the government’s waiver scheme to them. The kisan rally would be finalised after discussion with Deputy CM Sachin Pilot, he said.
