A fast-paced provisional driver has had a rough start to the new year - losing their license after being nabbed travelling 43 km/h over the speed limit.
The driver was intercepted by police after allegedly driving a Hyundai Getz at 133km/h in a 90km/h zone at Oldbury, 45 kilometres south of Perth.
Unluckily for the novice motorist, they were caught less than eight hours into the new year.

As further punishment, the driver also copped a $1200 on-the-spot fine and lost seven demerit points.
The steep penalty comes as part of the double demerit points campaign which apply on certain holidays in Western Australia, New South Wales and the ACT.

While the offence usually attracts seven demerit points, the driver was slapped with double the amount due to the timing of the offence.
Provisional drivers in Western Australia are only allowed to lose a total of eight demerit points across the four years they are considered a novice.
Double demerit points apply across the state from December 21 to January 6.
