Government official arrested for bribery

PANAJI: Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa office, on Monday caught assistant provident fund commissioner Rabindra Nath Roy red-handed while accepting a bribe, according to sources. Roy, who was arrested from his office in Panaji, allegedly issued a show cause notice to a contractor and later demanded a bribe from the contractor to stop the proceedings by the office of the assistant provident fund commissioner, sources said. The raid lasted for several hours on Monday.

Sources said when the arrested official demanded the bribe from the contractor to stop the proceedings, and the contractor agreed. But the contractor immediately filed a complaint with the CBI.


CBI officials accordingly laid a trap on December 31 and Roy was allegedly caught red-handed accepting the bribe.
