10-day Coimbatore Vizha to celebrate Kovai’s spirit
Jan 2, 2019, 00:31 ISTCoimbatore: This year’s Coimbatore Vizha, a 10-day celebration of the spirit of Coimbatore, will offer a street-style dining experience among its vast array of events.
Coimbatore’s restaurants will come under one roof at Codissia Grounds to allow people enjoy their popular dishes. The 11th edition of the event is set to start on January 4. Over the years, it has become more exciting with events on art, culture, education, entertainment, food, travel, heritage, technology and much more.
After an overwhelming response not only from the residents of Coimbatore but even from neighbouring towns and rural areas for a ride on the double-decker bus last year, the organisers have brought the bus to the city this year also. Residents can take a ride and view the city, enjoying the breeze from atop the bus from January 4 to 12.
‘Eat Street’ is aimed at satiating the taste buds of every Coimbatorean. It will have artists performing silambattam, poi kaal kudharai and parai. Special street-style entertainment has been planned for children of all age groups.
The organisers have also planned Kovai Movie Fest, which will give an experience of watching movies in an open theatre from January 9 to 12th in the amphitheatre at Codissia complex.
As part of the vizha, the Scheme Road at Race Course will turn into a one big art gallery to host ‘Kovai Art Street’ where artisans and painters from various parts of the country will display their work.
For the first time, the organisers have also included Coimbatore Science and Technology Festival, where students will exhibit science models.
Coimbatore Open Quiz at Suguna Auditorium, a Heritage Car show at Prozone Mall, Kovai Sports Fest at VOC Park and Kovai Music Fest at PSG Institute of Management are also sure to attract crowds.
