Cong, BJP term ‘Wall’ a failure
tnn | Jan 2, 2019, 00:13 ISTThiruvananthapuram: Opposition parties Congress and BJP have termed the ‘Women’s Wall’ a failure. People have disowned state government’s call to participate in the Wall, the opposition parties alleged.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the government machinery was widely misused for organizing the campaign.
The wall was a failure as it did not have the participation in semi-urban and rural areas, and government employees were coerced in to participate in the programme, said Chennithala.
KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said the government has created a communal divide in the society by keeping minority organizations away from the ‘Wall’.
The government threatened government employees with transfers and disciplinary action to make them take part in the programme. Even IAS and IPS officers had to be part of the Wall due to this, said the KPCC president.
BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai said only CPM supporters and government employees participated in the ‘Wall’. Government employees had no other but to attend the campaign as there was severe pressure from CPM-affiliated organizations.
BJP state general secretary A N Radhakrishnan said the ‘vanithamathil’ did not have the participation of even 3% of women in Kerala. Addressing a news conference in Kochi he said the state has more than 1.5crore women but not even 5lakh women took part in the event.
