Maruti Suzuki December sales miss estimates, down 1.3% at 1.28 lakh units

Passenger cars sales at 83,729 units fell by 4.7 percent YoY as mini segment (Alto and WagonR) and compact car segment (Swift, Ignis, Dzire, Baleno etc) registered 14 percent and 3.8 percent degrowth YoY.

Maruti Suzuki India continued to disappoint the Street with its monthly sales numbers which declined 1.3 percent year-on-year on lower exports.

The country's largest car maker sold 1.28 lakh units in last month of 2018 against 1.3 lakh units sold in same month last year, which was below the Nomura's expectations of 1.36 lakh units.

Domestic sales grew by 1.8 percent year-on-year to 1.21 lakh units, but exports fell sharply by 36.4 percent to 6,859 units compared to year-ago period.

Disappointing passenger cars sales also weakened overall growth for the month.

Passenger cars sales at 83,729 units fell by 4.7 percent YoY as mini segment (Alto and WagonR) and compact car segment (Swift, Ignis, Dzire, Baleno etc) registered 14 percent and 3.8 percent degrowth YoY.

Utility vehicles sales (S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga) increased 4.9 percent and vans segment registered a whopping 38.8 percent on year growth driven by Eeco.

Under light commercial vehicles segment, Maruti sold 1,675 units of Super Carry models, higher by 130.7 percent YoY.

At 10:40 hours IST, the stock was quoting at Rs 7,415.00, down Rs 47.30, or 0.63 percent on the BSE.
