APMC fined Rs50,000 for burning garbage
Proshun Chakraborty | TNN | Jan 2, 2019, 04:06 ISTNagpur: Following complaints from residents to district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the NMC health department imposed Rs50,000 penalty on Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), Kalamna, for burning garbage.
This was informed by health department officials to mayor Nanda Jichkar on Monday during a review meeting over complaints received during janta darbar of the minister held in Mangalwari, Ashi Nagar, Satranjipura and Lakadganj zones.
The NMC has also issued a notice under Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000, the officer informed.
Mayor expressed anguish when corporators from these zones informed about inaction by the health department to take action against garbage dumping in open plots. To this, officials said that most of the open plots are under the jurisdiction of Nagpur Improvement Trust. Mayor directed the NMC to impose fine on plot owners.
Jichkar also asked the administration to resolve complaints pertaining to defunct street lights, encroachments, choked sewer lines, contaminated water and cleanliness.
Municipal commissioner Abhijeet Bangar, senior corporators Varsha Thakre, Pragati Patil, Deepak Wadibhasme, Vandana Chandekar, Sangeeta Girhe, Manoj Sangole, additional commissioner Ram Joshi, assistant municipal commissioners Ganesh Rathore, Harish Raut, Vijay Humne, veterinary officer Dr Gajendra Mahalle and others were present.
