Chased by cops, SUV driver mows down Mumbai teen on New Year Eve

MUMBAI: A Class 9 student from Nalasopara was crushed to death by an SUV on the New Year Eve on Monday.
According to the police, the driver of the SUV hit him while fleeing from a nakabandi
Mandar Kasekar, the deceased, was waiting for his friend alongside a road when the speeding vehicle hit him. He died on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle was intercepted by the locals and was handed over to the Tuling police.
At around 11.30pm, Mandar, a student of the Mother Mary School in Nalasopara, was waiting alongside the road at Agarwal Circle. His scooter was also parked there.
A speeding SUV coming from the opposite direction jumped the divider and crashed into Mandar.
The driver, who was reportedly drunk, had fled from a nakabandi a few meters away and was being chased by the police. The driver drove rashly and lost control of the vehicle.
Eye witnesses said that the driver drove the car in a zig zag manner before jumping the divider.
The process of filing a case against the driver is underway.
