Nagpur: The externed goons, along with their gang including two former murder accused, made mockery of preventive action taken against them by going on a rampage in Indira Nagar, Jat Tarodi Number 3, shortly before midnight on Monday murdering murdering a 25-year-old man and seriously injuring another. The group, which calls itself ‘D gang’, also assaulted brother of murder victim and attacked a few more with sharp weapons under influence of liquor.
As the city police focused their attention on tipplers to curb accidents on New Year’s eve, the sensitive pockets in the city like Jat-Tarodi turned into an unrestricted zone.

Akash Waghmare, who was stabbed to death, was the sole bread-earner for his family after his father’s death. His widowed mother and 19-year-old brother Akshay now have none to shoulder their responsibility. He had confronted the goons for kicking on his door after stepping out of his house. The externees Shubham Tayade, Mukul Padole and their gang, dragged him out of his house before stabbing him in the stomach. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he was declared dead.

Akash’s brother Akshay also expressed his anger at the doctors of GMCH who waited to start treatment of the injured person only after receiving documents from police.

Sources from the locality said Shubham, Padole and their gang first attacked one Suraj Barmate, a painter, at the ground at Jat Tarodi 3 which had turned into open bar on the New Years eve. Suraj was attacked with a sharp weapon by Shubham, Padole, Girsh (Roshan) Wasnik, Hrishikesh Uke, Vaibhav Tayade and two others. He was targeted for relieving himself close to the place where the goons were enjoying liquor. Suraj’s brother Shubham, sister Raveena and one Ajay Vishwakarma too sustained serious injuries when they came to rescue the victim.

Later they went to Akash’s residence. Police feel Akash might have gone to rescue Suraj along with the Barmates that made him target of the gang.

The loss of the Waghmare family and assault on Barmates triggered a deep-rooted resentment among their kin and neighbours who had an ugly face-off with police who had to use force outside the mortuary of GMCH where the post-mortem of Akash was conducted. One of the those present, apparently under influence of alcohol, was injured in the melee.

People were angry over Imambada police as it had failed to notice that Shubham Tayade and Padole were around even after having been externed out of city limits for a year around a month ago by zonal DCP Nilesh Bharne.

The enraged kin and neigbhours of Waghmares were making angry demands of handing over the goons to them so they can teach them a lesson. The kin and friends kept on confronting cops over their failure to stop externees from freely operating in the city.

Wasnik, who has been already rounded up, was named in a murder case in early 2000. Vaibhav, also taken into custody for questioning, too was named in a murder case in 2005.
