Continuing with efforts to enhance mutual trust and faith among ground troops at the border, the Indian Army and Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) jointly celebrated New Year on Tuesday by greeting each other and extending best wishes. The delegations of both sides were led by Colonel-rank officers who exchanged compliments and pleasantries at the historic Nathu-La in Sikkim.
“The New Year celebration took place in an atmosphere of warmth and friendship with the aim of enhancing mutual trust and promoting border peace and tranquility. We look forward to warm relations with our neighbours. There are common challenges, both on the security front and otherwise, that both India and China are trying to tackle jointly. Both Armies recently completed joint exercises at Chengdu. A military delegation from China also visited India and went around installations here,” a senior official of the Eastern Command said.
There was some tension between the Armies of the two countries after the Doklam stand-off in 2017. The situation has improved over time.
