NEW DELHI: Sparks are set to fly on Wednesday in Lok Sabha which is set for a debate on the Rafale deal with Congress MP KC Venugopal and CPI’s Sankar Prasad Datta submitting their request for discussion under Rule 193 which doesn’t entail voting.
Parliamentary affairs minister Narendra Singh Tomar told TOI that the government has been ready for the discussion since the first day of the session but the opposition parties were “neither cooperating nor ready for it”. “As soon as Congress leaders said they want a discussion on Rafale, we agreed to it and it will be discussed on Wednesday,” he said.
Tomar said although this discussion was not required as the SC had given a clean chit and found no irregularity but government has agreed to it to ensure that the opposition parties stop lying on the matter. “Home minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Arun Jaitley and other leaders on several occasions said the government is ready for a discussion (on the issue),” he added.
