VADODARA: Tribals in Khanpur taluka of Mahisagar district have decided to suspend their agitation demanding scheduled tribe certificates. The decision was taken on Monday after the tribals were assured that their demands would be looked into.

The tribals had gone on an agitation since December 4 and besides other agitation programmes, had stopped sending their children to schools and colleges. Despite concerted efforts by the district administration, the tribals had remained adamant.

In wake of the stalemate, a meeting of officials of the district administration and elected representatives was convened on Saturday. After the meeting, the tribals were assured that their demand would be fulfilled within 15 days. The tribal residents of the taluka have not been given ST certificates since 2007.

Following the assurance, the tribals decided to suspend the agitation and submitted a memorandum to the district administration on Monday.
