PUNE: A 30-year-old woman, her three minor sons and a brother on Monday morning suffered burn injuries in a fire triggered by a gas leak in a house at Keshavnagar in Kasarwadi.
The injured persons — Shobha Biradar (30), her sons Ganesh (8), Shubham (5) and Devansh (3), and her brother Vijay Jadhav (22) — are being treated in a hospital.
An officer of the Bhosari police said the fire broke out following an explosion on the second floor of the house at Guru Nanak Colony in Keshavnagar of Kasarwadi.
“The Biradar family could not come out of their house because of the fire,” the officer said.
Hearing the sound of the explosion, some neighbours of Biradar rushed to the house and controlled the flames by pouring water.
“They rescued all the five family members and sent them to the hospital,” the officer said.
By the time the fire brigade reached the spot, the neighbours of Biradar had doused the fire.
“The entire one-room house was damaged in the fire,” said an officer of the Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade.
He said prima facie probe revealed that the explosion occurred because of gas leak.
“We suspect that the gas might have leaked from the cylinder throughout the night. We do not know if someone in the house switched on the light or lit the stove,” the officer said.
Two more fire incidents were reported in the Pimpri Chinchwad area on Monday. No one suffered injuries in these incidents.
