PATNA: Vaishali police would conduct layered voice analysis of a home guard jawan of Bihar police in industrialist Gunjan Khemka murder case. Gunjan, the state BJP’s small-scale industries cell convener, was shot dead near his factory at Hajipur in Vaishali district on December 20 last.
Vaishali SP Manavjeet Singh Dhillon told TOI over phone on Tuesday that home guard jawan Manji Kumar Chaudhary, a resident of Kanti in Muzaffarpur district, was earlier interrogated in the case. “Manji had taken empty cartons worth Rs30 lakh from Gunjan in 2015. However, he had paid only Rs12 lakh. Gunjan had filed a case against Manji in the Patna CJM court in this connection,” the SP said, adding Gunjan also owned a carton manufacturing factory.

Dhillon said Manji used to procure litchi from farmers of Muzaffarpur area and transport the fruit to different parts of the country. “He is our prime suspect. He will be taken to forensic laboratory at Gandhi Nagar in Gujarat for the layered voice analysis,” the SP said.

Explaining the test, Dhillon said experts conduct audio and video recording of a suspect while asking questions related to the case. “The suspect’s pulse, blood pressure and other physiological changes are measured along with the audio and video recording with the help of special software to know if s/he is lying,” he said.

He said depending on the layered voice analysis, police would decide if Narco test was needed on Manji or not.

“If the result of layered voice analysis gives an unclear or negative result, police will prepare for his Narco test. However, in that case, the suspect’s consent is required in a court. No consent is required for conducting layered voice analysis test,” the SP said.

Dhillon said police had yet not been able to ascertain the identity of Gunjan’s killer. A bike-borne criminal had shot Gunjan dead when he was waiting in his chauffeur-driven SUV for guard to open the factory gate. His driver Manoj Ravidas (30) had also sustained bullet injury.
