The plans are in the works for a 115-room, extended-stay hotel near Briarwood Mall on Ann Arbor’s south side. It would be a Home2 Suites by Hilton, according to plans submitted to the city for approval.

Ann Arbor Superior Hotel Group LLC, led by Detroit-based businessmen Dante and Dorayd Bacall of Bacall Companies Inc., is proposing the four-story, 71,662-square-foot building. They’re working with Stellar Development LLC of Auburn Hills and TSA Hospitality of Detroit on the $5 million project.

The plans call for demolishing a one-story office building on the 2.6-acre site at 361 W. Eisenhower Parkway.

The new hotel would include an indoor pool, outdoor patio area, first-floor lobby and breakfast area, a large meeting room and a conference room. An integrated fitness and laundry area is designed to allow guests to do laundry while they work out.

The hotel also would be pet-friendly.

With in-unit kitchens and living areas, the suites would provide comfortable accommodations, Dante Bacall said.

There are no plans for a restaurant in the hotel, but guests would be served a continental-style breakfast.

Bacall Companies Inc. owns more than 2 million square feet of retail space in Michigan, plus 10 bar/restaurant businesses and more than 20 hotels, Dante Bacall said.

The company also is behind a $60 million development in Detroit with 200-plus apartments above an urban-style Meijer grocery store. The Home2 Suites is its first project in Ann Arbor.

The majority of the hotel building is expected to be brick and stone, with an earth-tone color scheme.

The hotel would have a unique, modern look, Dante Bacall said.

Access to a 115-car parking lot would be provided through two driveways on Signature Boulevard. Four bicycle parking spaces are proposed, the minimum required by the city.

The landscaping plans include a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs.
