Drunk cop attacks man sleeping on road, creates ruckus

CHENNAI: A traffic police constable, who was allegedly drunk, beat up a man sleeping on a pavement near Nungaambakkam and created ruckus on Monday morning. The injured man was admitted to KMC hospital and departmental action has been initiated against the policeman.
Police said Yesu Rajan, 38, attached to the Vepery traffic police wing, resided at the police quarters in Nungmbakkam and saw a man sleeping at a pavement nearby around 2.30am. Yesu Rajan picked up quarrel with the man for sleeping on the road.
Anwar, 50, a resident of Perambur, was sleeping on the pavement after parking his autorickshaw on the road side. The two indulged in a ugly verbal spat, following which the policeman attacked Anwar on the road. Hearing his screams, a few members of the public alerted the police, who were on night patrol near Valluvar Kottam.
Police sub-inspector Madurai Muthu from the Nungambakkam police station rushed to the spot and took the drunk cop to the police station for questioning.
Injured Anwar was admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital. Based on his complaint, the Nungambakkam police have registered a case under the Section 75 of Madras City Police Act and initiated departmental action against him.
