Hundreds attend funeral of 10 killed in Kutch accident

The Kotia family, to which five victims belonged, was originally from Rajasthan and had been living in Bhuj for the past 35 yearsRAJKOT: Hundreds of people in Bhuj participated in the funeral procession of 10 people who had lost their lives in the accident reported from Chirai village of Bhachau taluka in Kutch district on Sunday evening. The procession was taken out from Jeshtha Nagar locality of Bhuj on Monday morning.
The victims, who were from the Kotia family, included five children aged between 10 and 16 years and two women.
“The Kotia family was originally from Rajasthan and had been living in Bhuj for the past 35 years. They were into laundry business. The victims had gone to Mogaldham temple in Bhachau and from there they were supposed to return home to Bhuj. However, instead of going to Bhuj, they decided to visit their relative in Adipur and headed towards there,” said an official from Bhachau police station.
When the victims took the road to Adipur, near Chirai village they met with the accident. They were killed when the SUV they were travelling in was badly mangled after getting boxed between two trucks carrying cargo containers. According to police, the SUV was driving between two trucks — one going ahead and the other behind it.
“The truck ahead of the SUV suddenly applied brakes, following which it rammed into the truck’s rear. At the same time, the truck coming behind the SUV rammed into it,” said the official.
