DMK president M.K. Stalin on Monday said that only an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would solve the mystery surrounding the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Addressing mediapersons, the DMK leader said it was his view that the commission headed by retired Justice Arumughaswamy won’t be able to bring out the truth.

When asked about Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam’s claim that Jayalalithaa’s death was shrouded in mystery, Mr. Stalin said he had seen the Minister’s interview.

“I demanded a CBI inquiry immediately after the former Chief Minister’s death. But I was then criticised for my views. Now, Mr. Shanmugam has suggested that Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan should be grilled in custody,” he said.

There is a mystery in the former Chief Minister’s death. The CBI alone would be able to bring out the truth of the matter,” the DMK leader added.
