When the new emission norms were introduced, car manufacturers took this as an opportunity to rework their engines, with the aim of maximising fuel efficiency, while complying with emission norms. While some manufacturers could offer us only one, there are a few skilled ones who managed to balance both. Here is a list of seven fuel-efficient cars to look forward to in 2019:
1. Maruti Swift: Though the iconic Swift needs no introduction, the 1.5 litre inline 4 is completely redone to comply the emission norms, increasing its efficiency considerably. This, coupled with its signature gearbox, is sure to make the Swift a respected contender.
2. Renault Kwid: The French manufacturer was not going to stay behind in the efficiency race, and the new Kwid speaks volumes of such. The new Kwid is a family-oriented car, with sufficient power and great fuel efficiency. As the French say, “a la perfection!”
3. Tata Tiago: While taking over half the luxurious car brands around the world, Tata has not forgotten its small capacity economy cars. The all new Tata Tiago is the perfect answer to all its competitors.
4. Hyundai Santro: The classic Santro was an instant hit when it first hit the market. With innocent looking round headlights and a friendly, smiling look, the Santro carved a niche for itself in the hatchback segment. Now, it is back with new features, looks and style components.
5. Maruti WagonR: Yet another entrant from the Maruti family, the legendary WagonR has probably undergone the greatest number of image changes in automobile history. With an all new look and an engine complying to emission norms, it is set to make new statements in the Indian market.
6. Maruti Alto K10: It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Maruti has invented the formula for the “perfect fuel-efficient car.” What else could explain three cars of Maruti in the same list, with its latest entrant being the Alto K10. By increasing the erstwhile capacity of 800cc, rounding it off to a clean tonne. The company achieved maximum fuel efficiency with its Alto K10, which will enter the market soon.
7. Datsun Go: Considered an underdog, Datsun would not be the first to come to mind when it comes to fuel efficient cars. But the upcoming Go is expected to bring a much-needed image change for the company.
