HYDERABAD: A woman police constable breast fed a two-month-old girl who was believed to be abandoned by her mother near Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Sunday night. After the baby was fed, police tracked down the mother, who is a ragpicker, and handed over the baby.
On Sunday, a woman with an infant approached Md Irfan of Yakuthpura when he was standing near OGH and requested him to hold the baby for sometime as she had to go and look for drinking water. Irfan took the baby from her but the woman did not return for a long time. Irfan initially took the baby to his house as she was crying continuously. He tried to feed the baby packet milk but the baby did not take it. Worried, Irfan approached Afzulgunj police and handed the infant over to them.
Constable M Ravinder, who was on duty, did not know how to feed the baby who was looking weak and crying. “I called my wife, Priyanka, who is a constable and also the mother of a baby boy. She immediately asked me to bring the baby home so that we could bring her up as our own child. Since that can not be done, I asked my wife how to feed the baby who was crying of hunger. My wife immediately got into a cab, came to the police station and breast fed the baby,” Ravinder said.
