Distracted Driver Clips SUV, Gets Launched Into Spectacular Flip

One cannot overstate the dangers of distracted driving.

It’s a very dangerous phenomenon that claims many lives each year, despite the campaigns that warn against the (obvious) dangers of not paying attention to the road.

While we don’t know why the driver in the following video was distracted, we do know the road was the last thing they were paying attention to. How else could one explain the sudden contact with the SUV that was taking a left turn?

Thanks to the dashcam of the car driving behind the distracted driver we can see that thry clipped the SUV and then got violently sent upward and rolled over. Given that none of the cars was traveling fast, the impact was probably aggravated by the fact that the vehicles’ wheels made contact with each other, sending the one in the rear into a spectacular flip.

This is the type of accident that’s common in open-wheel racing, as tire-on-tire contact is much easier to accomplish on a race track than on public roads. When the front of a tire touches the back of another tire spinning the same direction, the former gets thrown up in the air abruptly.

Thankfully, the car eventually landed on its wheels in the middle of the intersection, allowing other road users to check on the driver and call an ambulance. Here’s hoping the distracted driver didn’t get hurt and they learned the valuable lesson that they must always pay attention to the road.
