BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) secured a place in the Guiness Record for collecting 33 tonnes of plastic bottles in 12 hours.

Soon after BBMP's name got registered, the civic agency appealed to citizens to stop using single use of plastic bottles. BBMP's special commissioner D Randeep tweeted: "It's finally official BBMP jointly holds the Guinness Record of most plastic bottles collected for recycling in 12 hours. A mammoth 33 tonnes. Surely a wake up call for all Bengalureans to shun single use plastic disposables for #swachhasundarabengaluru."

On October 2, 2018, the BBMP had collected most plastic bottles for recycling in 12 hours is 33,355.55 kg. The BBMP achieved this with the help of Go Native, Ramakrishna Ganesh, Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation and Let's Be The Change (all India).
