Four persons were arrested for allegedly running an illegal sex determination and pregnancy termination racket in Gurugram following a joint raid by Punjab and Haryana teams on Sunday.

Two of the accused were arrested earlier too on similar charges.

Ramesh Dutt, director of a detective agency — Speed, Search and Security Network Private Limited — having a Memorandum of Understanding with the Punjab government to curb female foeticide, recently received a tip-off that a gang, involved in illegal sex determination, was active in Gurugram.

Following this, the Punjab team along with a decoy patient, Sunita, reached Gurugram bus stand on Sunday around 2 a.m. A Haryana team comprising Deputy Civil Surgeon Nawal Kishore and Drugs Control Officer, Amandeep Chauhan, also accompanied them.

Satish, one of the accused, met the decoy patient at the bus stand and took her to Manesar with the two teams following them. He then reached Rajiv Chowk and three more persons joined him. At this, all the four were arrested. Besides Satish, the others have been identified as Davender, Nitin and his father Gopal Krishan.

Modus operandi

The accused took the pregnant women to Satyawan Hospital at Shahjhanpur in Uttar Pradesh for sex-determination test and aborted the pregnancy at Gurugram using Medical Termination of Pregnancy Kits.

Davender and Satish were arrested on June 26 as well under Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and a First Information Report was registered at Kherki Daula police station.

The MTP kits were recovered from the car of Davender, a quack, then. This time also MTP kits were recovered from his black car, confirming his continuing with same modus operandi.

“It is an excellent work done by the team of Mr. Amandeep and Mr. Kishore. Keeping in view the fact that two of the accused are repeat offenders this case be transferred to Crime Branch to ensure a detailed thorough investigation. So that criminal activities of such repeat offenders are curbed. Their networking in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab also need to be probed,” said project coordinator, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Haryana, G.L. Singhal.

The accused charged ₹35,000 for the illegal test.

A case has been registered at Shivaji Nagar police station in this connection under different Acts.
