New office premises (encircled) of the assistant director of transport at Baina

ROB work ‘delays’ shifting of Vasco ADT office

VASCO: The shifting of the office of the assistant director of transport (ADT) to Baina from the heart of the port town has been delayed further due to the ongoing construction work of the elevated road-cum-flyover-cum-road over bridge (ROB), which runs through the Baina beach.

At present, the office of the ADT is functioning from Our Lady of Guia building, which is located near the F L Gomes road.

There has been a demand from the people visiting the ADT to shift the office, which is congested, to some other spacious premises so that the visitors are not inconvenienced.

ADT, Vasco, Abhay Naik has identified a spacious premises at Baina near Ravindra Bhavan, and the transport department has made the necessary arrangements to shift the office there.

“We have already installed all the equipment which are essential for the functioning of the ADT office at Baina, but due to the ongoing construction work of the ROB, which is a part of four lane highway NH17B project, the shifting has been delayed,” said Naik.

He also said that the road opposite the new office premises at Baina has become dusty due to the construction work.

“We don’t want to put the people to a hardship. The dust pollution there is extreme due to the movement of heavy vehicles. The shifting of ADT office could also pose risk to the lives of the visitors in view of the ongoing construction work of the ROB,” he said.

“In order to prevent risk to the lives of the people, the transport authorities have decided to delay the shifting the office,” he said.

He, however, was unable to specify how much more time the transport department would take for shifting the ADT office to the new premises, but he was of the opinion that the ADT office will be functioning from the new premises only after the completion ROB work.
