PATNA: The Akhil Bharatiya Rauniyar Vaish Mahasabha (ABRVM) on Sunday demanded inclusion of Rauniyar caste in the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) list.
Thousands of people from Rauniyar community participated in their 'Hunkar rally' at Bapu Sabhagar here. Their leaders urged the political parties to give them proper representation in ticket distribution for the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections. Rauniyar is a sub-caste of Vaish community.
Addressing the gathering, ABRVM national president and former DGP Ashok Kumar Gupta said, "If the community members are not given proper representation in ticket distribution, we will form our own political party and contest elections." He said Rauniyars have over 1.5 crore population in the country, including 20 lakh in Bihar.
"We are an educationally backward community and need adequate representation in government jobs. Inclusion of Rauniyars in EBC category will solve many issues," Gupta said.
Speaking on the occasion, Nepal's member of parliament Hari Narayan Prasad Rauniyar said, "The community has 50,000 population in Nepal where its members have proper representation in politics and industry. I support the demands of our counterparts in Bihar."
Gupta said the ABRVM would start an outreach campaign across the state from 2019 to unite the community people for inclusion in the EBC list. Tinku Kumar Gupta, a participant from Gaya, said Rauniyars remained unrepresented in state politics. "Political parties must give tickets to the candidates of our caste. It will help in raising our problems in state assembly and Parliament," he said.
