Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan has dismissed allegations that he colluded with Apollo Hospitals and acted like its spokesperson during the hospitalisation of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
The allegations were not only false but also slanderous, he said in a statement. He said he would answer queries during his deposition on January 4 before the retired Justice Arumughaswamy Commission probing the circumstances surrounding the former CM’s death and clear the air.
Dr. Radhakrishnan termed the allegations levelled against him “unfounded, baseless and wild”. He said he had not been served a copy of the petition filed by the counsel for the Commission.
“These allegations have caused tremendous stress and mental agony to me. In reality, I had discharged my duties to the best of my ability. The doctors from Apollo and specialist consultants [including those from the premier AIIMS] concurred with the line of treatment for the late Chief Minister,” he said.
The decision for or against the transfer of the former Chief Minister to a foreign destination for treatment was purely medical, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.
