Ten dead as SUV gets boxed between trucks in Bhachau

Fertilizer from a truck lies strewn on the road after the accidentRAJKOT: As many as 10 people lost their lives when the SUV they were travelling in was badly mangled after getting sandwiched between two trucks carrying cargo containers near Chirai village of Bhachau taluka in Kutch district on Sunday evening.
According to police, the SUV was driving between two trucks — one going ahead and the other coming from behind. “The truck going ahead suddenly applied brakes, following which the SUV rammed into its rear and the truck coming from behind rammed into it,” said an official from Bhachau police station.
“The deceased are from Bhuj. We have extracted 10 bodies so far. The work to remove the mangled remains of the SUV is still under way. The injured have been rushed to hospitals in Bhuj and Bhachau,” Parikshita Rathod, Kutch (east) superintend of police, told TOI. The toll is likely to mount as several other victims are feared trapped inside the SUV. The accident caused a major traffic jam on the road. The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.
All victims belonged to the same family and were going to their home in Bhuj.
