Churchill Bros emerge U-16 South Zone champs

AMBELIM: Churchill Brothers emerged Goa Football Association’s U-16 League South Zone champions after CRSC Navelim, their opponents for Monday’s tie, failed to report for the scheduled match at Ambelim ground, thus giving them full points.

The young Red Machines were tied with Salgaocar FC with 33 points each from 12 matches, however they finished top ahead of the Green Brigade due to their better head-to-head record.

Churchill Brothers had beaten Salgaocar FC 4-0 in their league encounter.

“The boys performed well and took individual responsibilities; they functioned as one unit on the pitch. In the absence of our four regular players, who are at India U-16 camp in Odisha, they displayed positive football throughout the tournament,” said Derryl D’Souza, head coach, Churchill Bros U-16.

Churchill Brothers and Salgaocar FC have now qualified for the state

finals.
