Congress in election mode, Wasnik to meet leaders

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in- charge of party affairs in Kerala Mukul Wasnik will start his tour of all districts in the state from Wednesday as part of readying the party committees ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

The KPCC political affairs committee that met here on Sunday gave final shape to the district-level meetings in view of the visit of Wasnik, who will be meeting all the leaders from each district.

All KPCC leaders from the respective districts and leaders who are in-charge of each Lok Sabha constituencies will also take part in the meetings convened by the AICC general secretary. The idea is to collect opinion from the leaders in each constituency on the possible choice of their candidates for the ensuing election.


Wasnik will also interact with the booth-level leaders in each district. His first visit will be to Kasargod on Wednesday. The next day he will meet the leaders in Kannur. He will then visit Kozhikode (Jan 4), Wayanad (Jan 5) and Malappuram (Jan 6).


All the AICC, KPCC and DCC members have been asked to attend the meeting convened by the AICC general secretary. The meeting will also decide on the launching of election campaign in each constituency.


In the second phase, Wasnik will visit the remaining districts, for which the dates have not been finalized yet. After the visit, the AICC general secretary is expected to submit a report to AICC president Rahul Gandhi.
