‘Translocate Chinna Thambi’
Jan 1, 2019, 00:22 ISTCoimbatore: Farmers have appealed to the forest department and the collectorate to translocate wild elephant Chinna Thambi to forest from human habitations. The tusker might lead other elephants to farmlands and pose an even bigger problem for residents and forest department staff, they said.
Two days ago, a herd of seven elephants were seen at Thoppampatti, in Thudiyalur, district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Vivaisaigal Sangam said in a letter to the authorities. “It has been more than 10 days since the forest department translocated Vinayaka. Though the forest ministry has given clearance to translocate Chinna Thambi also, the department is yet to capture him. Now, there are reports that he is recruiting other wild elephants to raid crops and create problems,” the letter said.
