Woman dares sexual harassers, stripped

Representative imageVARANASI: A woman was thrashed and stripped by goons in a village in Bhadohi district on Saturday for opposing sexual harassment by them. Senior police officials swung into action after a video of the incident went viral on social media. Police lodged an FIR and arrested the main accused.
SP Bhadohi Rajesh S also removed inspector Anil Yadav to ensure impartial probe after it surfaced that he allegedly forced the victim to file a complaint of altercation. The woman had gone to panchayat office with her husband to fill form for some government scheme for poor. In the meantime, some local goons, including Lalchand Yadav, said to be a relative of the victim’s husband, sexually harassed her. When the couple resisted, some senior citizens intervened and pacified the situation.
The woman returned home while her husband went for some work.
Around 5pm, Lalchand and his accomplices went to the woman’s house and thrashed her. They tried to strip her as she ran out of her house in a bid to save herself. However, the goons kept chasing and thrashing the semi-clad woman.
The victim’s husband rushed home on coming to know of the attack and tried to save her but he was also attacked by the goons.
Some villagers, meanwhile, captured the assault on camera after which the video clip of the incident went viral on social media.
The woman and her husband went to Gopiganj police station where the inspector allegedly forced them to lodge a complaint of altercation. Senior officials intervened on coming to know about viral video and lodged a named FIR against Lalchand and his accomplices.
ASP Bhadohi Sanjay Kumar said on Sunday, “An FIR has been lodged under section 354, 323, 504, 506 and 427 of IPC after medical examination of the woman. The main accused Lalchand Yadav has been arrested while search for his accomplices is on.” Taking serious note of the incident, the SP has removed inspector Bhadohi and attached him to police lines to ensure impartial probe in the matter, he added.
