CHENNAI: The secretary of the Kennel Club of India (KCI) in Chennai, CV Sudharashan, has withdrawn the petition filed with the Madras high court seeking a direction to quash a state government report pointing out several violations by him and his wife Rukmani.

When the plea came for hearing on November 20, Sudarshan, sought the court's permission to withdraw it. Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana dismissed the plea as withdrawn.

The report prepared by the Chennai central district registrar stated that Sudharshan and Rukmani used funds of KCI, one of the country's known pure-bred dog registries, for paying honorariums and ex-gratia. The couple was instructed to credit the amount to the KCI’s bank account. Sudarshan was unavailable for comment.

N Sekar, the registrar, took up the inquiry after six KCI members alleged mismanagement of the club’s affairs, including misappropriation of funds.

These members alleged that Sudharshan was holding three posts secretary, treasurer and editor of Indian Kennel Gazette (KCI's official magazine) for more than three decades and was paid Rs 8.7 lakh per annum as editor.

They added that the KCI commitee at the annual general meeting was unaware of the honorariums and ex-gratia.

In a earlier report carried by TOI, Sudarshan rejected this claim and said the KCI committee had approved the decision..
