Chennai:
Ingredients
Paasi payiru / moong dal: 300 gm
Sugar: 300 gms
Sukku powder: 1 tsp
Ghee: 100 gm (additional 50 gm if need be)
Method
- Dry roast the moong dal in a kadai till it becomes slightly brown — ensure not to burn it. Set it aside and cool.
- Add the contents to a mixer and dry grind it into a fine powder. Separately, dry grind the sugar too into a fine powder. Ensure that no lumps are formed and discard any grainy remnants.
- Add the sukku powder to the sifted mixture.
- Heat ghee in a kadai and once it is warm, begin adding small portions of the moong dal and sugar mixture and stir. Ensure the final dough is not too soggy or dry – add some more ghee in case of dryness.
- In the hollow of your palm, take small quantities of the dough. Roll and press into the shape of a cookie and store in an air-tight container.
The mentioned portions result in 25 cookies that can be stored for upto a month. This easy-to-do recipe serves as an ideal, nutritious snack for kids or adults with diabetes.
