DPT transporters go on strike, but call it off within hours
TNN | Dec 31, 2018, 04:00 ISTRajkot: There was a pile-up of trucks at the Gate 1 of Deendayal Port Trust (DPT) in Kandla, Gandhidham, Kutch when transporters went on a flash strike on Sunday. However, the strike was called off and transporters resumed work after talks with DPT officials by late afternoon.
The transporters were protesting against the DPT's order which mandates that a clerk at the Gate 1 to collect all the documents of every vehicle and also conduct the weighing of the goods loaded in the vehicles. “When only one clerk is saddled with so much of task, the entire exercise is bound to become cumbersome, causing delay to the movement of trucks," said an agitating transporter.
There was a 2-km-long line of trucks at the DPT witnessed on Sunday.
DPT officials said that the decision was taken to avoid unauthorized entry/exit of cargo vehicles inside the port. They said that the SOP (standard operating procedure) was made as per procedure where Customs House Agent (CHA) authorization is required to permit cargo vehicles inside port.
