18-year-old girl raped by youth, friend in Kheri

Representative imageSHAHJAHANPUR: An FIR has been registered against two persons for allegedly raping an 18-year- old at a village in Mitauli area of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Saturday. An FIR has been filed against the accused who are on the run .
The survivor told TOI that she had gone to collect fodder from the fields for her cattle when the accused allegedly accosted her and gang-raped her. They threatened to kill her if she dared to tell anyone about her ordeal.
The two accused fled from the spot after the survivor lost consciousness.
After regaining consciousness, the survivor returned home. She told her mother about what had happened. Her mother took her to Mitauli police station to lodge a complaint. On its basis, an FIR under Indian Penal Code sections 376D (gang rape) and 506(criminal intimidation) was registered against the accused. A search is on to nab the duo.
After the FIR was registered, police sent the survivor for medical examination and thereafter her statement was recorded. Her statement would be recorded before a judicial magistrate under CRPC section 164 once the court opens.
Station house officer of Mitauli police station Puneet Kumar told TOI, “A girl was allegedly raped by a local youth and his friend. The accused have been identified as Mohammed Iqbal and his friend, Lambu, whose real name is still not known. We have already started our investigation after receiving the complaint. Our team has visited the incident spot and the statement of a few local residents has also been recorded. We are also trying to arrest the accused who are on the run since the incident. If required, we will take a warrant from court to take further legal action against them.”
