2019 Nissan Altima Challenges 2019 Toyota Camry For Family Car Supremacy

Reviews of the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima have been positive so far. The sixth-generation Altima is not only miles better than its predecessor, but it also has the potential to upset the established order in the midsize sedan segment.

Speaking of hierarchy, the new Altima needs to beat the 2019 Toyota Camry if Nissan wants to claim the crown in this highly-contested segment that has been mostly a Japanese affair for many years now.

As the segment’s best-seller, the Camry is a tough nut to crack, especially with its redesign for the 2018 model year.

So, does the new Altima have what it takes to dethrone the Camry? To answer this question, Redline Reviews pitted the two Japanese sedans against each other. Both are in range-topping trims; the Altima is in Platinum VC-Turbo guise with the turbo-four engine, while the Camry is V6 XLE.

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the reviewer found the cabin of the Camry a more enjoyable place to be. The fit and finish are better, as is the quality of the materials. For example, the Altima features a cheap-looking fake wood trim and the leather on the steering wheel feels like vinyl rather than real leather.

On the other hand, the Nissan offers a better infotainment system than the Toyota. It integrates both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while the Camry only comes with Apple CarPlay connectivity — and only starting with the 2019 model year. Interior space is also slightly better in the new Altima.
