Kamarajar Salai, Sixth Avenue to be trafffic-free on New Year

Marina Beach and Elliot’s Beach roads will be closed from 8 p.m. on December 31 to 4 a.m. on January 1.

As both the beaches will attract thousands of people on Kamrajar Salai and Besant Nagar to celebrate New Year’s Eve on Monday night, the traffic will be regulated to ensure an ‘accident-free New Year’s eve’. Vehicles will not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai between the Gandhi Statue and War Memorial.

Vehicles coming from R.K. Salai, Wallajah Road, Bharathi Salai, Lloyds Road, Dr. Besant Road, Adams Road, Flagstaff Road and War Memorial will not be allowed from 8 p.m. onowards and commuters can park their vehicles in the parking spaces. Vehicles will not be allowed from Wallajah point and RBI North subwayand will be diverted towards Flagstaff Road to reach Anna Salai. Vehicles coming from Adyar towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Santhome towards Kutchery Road, Luz, Royapettah High Road and Music Academy to reach Anna Salai.

Vehicles coming from Karneeshwar Koil Street will not be allowed towards Kamarajar Salai and will be diverted to Santhome. No vehicle will be permitted towards the loop roads.

Foreshore and Elliot’s

All Foreshore Road entries will be barricaded on Monday from 8 p.m. onwards to prevent entry to the beach. On Elliot’s Beach, vehicles will not be allowed inside the 6th Avenue after 8 p.m. The entries will be blocked at the 5th Avenue, 4th Main Road, 3rd Main Road, 16th Cross Street junctions. Vehicles will not be allowed from the 7th Avenue M.G. Road junction towards the Vellankanni Church.

Parking will be available on Swamy Sivananda Salai, Railway Basement at MRTS, Chepauk MRTS, Lloyds Road, Queen Mary’s College campus. Also, parking can be done on one side on Dr. Besant Road and Lloyds Road.
