SP brushes aside criticism of rights groups

Aathmakuru Anusha and her two siblings, Annapoorna and Bhavani, had been arrested only after gathering concrete evidence on their links with the Maoist frontal organisations, SP (Visakhapatnam Rural) Attada Babujee said on Saturday.

Brushing aside the claims of several rights groups that the police had arrested innocent members of the Chaitanya Mahila Sangham, Mr. Babujee told the media here that Anusha was the conduit between the Maoists and their frontal organisations in the urban areas. She and her sisters functioned as a team, he said.

“Anusha is an important member in the team of top leader Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna, popularly known as RK. She is also trained in military tactics. She participated in several exchanges of fire,” Mr. Babujee said.

“We have all evidence on how Annapoorna and Bhavani helped the Maoists in supplying essentials and conducting recce. They may be working for some NGO. We arrested them as we have evidence that they are acting as couriers to the Maoists.

“The tribal people have realised that the Maoists are opposed to development and that their ideology will benefit none,” the SP said, and cited as example the protests staged by the people seeking roads and mobile towers during the recent People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Week.

Welfare initiatives

Referring to the welfare initiatives in the Agency, Mr. Babujee said 2,900 youth were trained in self-employment courses such as driving and tailoring this year. This apart, 44 medical camps and sports tournaments were also organised, he said.
