PATNA: Inching towards corporate professional culture, the state police headquarters, for the first time, held an orientation programme for 81 newly-recruited deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) on the BMP-5 premises here on Friday.

Altogether 120 recruits have been selected through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Top police officers, including DGP KS Dwivedi, ADG (CID) Vinay Kumar, ADG (law and order) Alok Raj and others met them one by one.

Surprisingly, the new recruits include MBBS degree holder, engineers, MBA graduates and NEET qualified youths.

The DGP told TOI over the phone he was happy that even MBBS and engineering graduates had opted for the DSP post.

Dwivedi said the orientation programme was organized mainly to inculcate a feeling of belongingness and discipline so that they must not be involved in any activity that damages the reputation of state police.

“They must know the senior officers by face,” the DGP said. He said earlier, newly-recruited DSPs were given appointment letters and asked directly to join training at a specific centre.

“However, things have changed this time and orientation programme was held in which they were provided refreshment and several basic but vital information about policing before joining the one-year training programme. All the 120 new recruits will be called to Patna before sending them to the training academy at Rajgir in Nalanda,” he said.

Incidentally, this would be the first batch of DSPs to receive training at the newly inaugurated Rajgir training academy.

The DGP said after one year of rigorous training, these DSPs would be posted in the field for further training to impart them knowledge about working of police stations, SDPOs and SPs.
