Retired Madras High Court judge K. Venkataraman is to head the three-member Lokayukta Search Committee, which was constituted by the Lokayukta Selection Committee on Friday.
The search committee has been tasked with submitting names of candidates to the selection committee for appointment as chairperson and members of the Lokayukta.
The selection committee, chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, also named former Advocate General R. Krishnamoorthy and retired IPS officer A. Pari as the other members of the search committee. The terms and conditions of the search committee would be regulated by the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Rules, 2018.
As per the rules, the selection committee would constitute the search committee, comprising three members with special knowledge and expertise. The tenure of the chairperson and members of the search committee would be two months, starting from the date of constitution of the panel.
‘Based on consensus’
“The workings of the search committee shall be directed in a manner based on consensus, provided that in the case of difference of opinion among the members of the search committee, the decision of the majority shall prevail,” the rules state.
While submitting its recommendations to the selection committee, the search committee must ensure that no person is considered for inclusion in the panel without his/her consent.
“The decision of the selection committee in recommending the names of chairperson and members of Lokayukta shall be by majority,” according to the rules.
