New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (
DGCA) has asked all
airlines to make in-flight announcements in local languages besides English and Hindi. The regulator also wants
pilots to inform passengers about important monuments on the flight path.
“Use of local language to the extent possible, while making in-flight announcements,” DGCA said in an advisory issued on Thursday. “To enhance awareness about cultural heritage of
India, the pilot can make announcements about important monuments or sites that are enroute the flight.”
Airlines, however, feel it’s not feasible. “We cannot programme 25 different languages for announcements,” said an airline executive who did not want to be identified.
