Stop mishaps on black spots or face FIR: Kanpur administration to NHAI
TNN | Updated: Dec 29, 2018, 12:20 ISTKANPUR: The district administration has asked National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to take immediate action on identified accident black spots on national highways criss-crossing the district or be ready to face action.
District magistrate Vijay Vishwas Pant, at a meeting held on Thursday, has directed the NHAI authorities to show urgency in the matter.
“If they fail to take measures, and any accident occurs at the identified black spots, we will book NHAI officials under section 304 of IPC (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder),” said the DM. Every human life is precious and NHAI authorities have been asked to leave no stone unturned to improve the black spots else be ready to face action, he added.
The identified black spots include Rama Devi Chauraha, Ahirwan U-turn, PAC turn, Purani Chungi Jajmau, Jareeb Chowki Chauraha, Narwal turn, Hathipur turn, Ruma, Bhaunti, Chakarpur Mandi, Kisan Nagar, Paras Chauraha, Krishnamanda Mandir crossing Ghatampur, Afzalpur, Harwanshpur Ramaipur, Coca Cola crossing, Naubasta, Kalpi Road, Yashoda nagar crossing and Barra bypass. These black spots have been included in the list of accident-prone areas. The district administration has instructed NHAI officials to remove engineering errors and other ‘mistakes’ to make them safe.
The black spot is identified on a stretch of about 500 metres on national highway wherein either five road accidents or 10 fatalities had been reported during the past three years, said NHAI sources.
The black spot is identified following inspection by experts who suggest long-term remedial measures and temporary steps to be taken to curb accidents.
