A 58-year-old woman and her 35-year-old son were found dead in their house at Gothavali in Rabale on Thursday morning.
The bodies of Rekha Singh and Suraj Singh were found by Prerna Singh, the woman’s daughter.
Assistant Police Inspector Rahul Sonawane from Rabale police station said, “Suraj was suffering from liver cancer and was under treatment since 2012. He was being treated at Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel. He was recently shifted to Kokilaben Hospital in Versova, where the doctors said he had just one month to live. The mother was close to the son. Seeing the extreme pain he was suffering, we suspect that both of them decided to take the extreme step. There seems to be no foul play.”

Prerna, who works with Accenture, gave her brother medicines and placed the oxygen mask on his face at 12.30 a.m. on Thursday and went to sleep. At 7.30 a.m., when she woke up, she found her brother and mother dead in the room. Mr. Sonawane said that the mother had left a note requesting that their ashes be immersed in the Ganga in Banaras.
Mr. Sonawane said, “The woman and her children stayed together, while the father lived in Bihar. The father has been informed about the incident and will be reaching Navi Mumbai soon to conduct the last rites.”
