Security forces prevent J&K teen from joining militancy

JAMMU: In a joint operation by Army and J&K police, a 17-year-old armed youth - self-radicalised through online content - was apprehended while he was heading to Mendhar in Poonch district to join a terror outfit on December 25, claimed Army on Friday. The teen was counselled against taking up arms.

"The minor was caught with his father's licensed pistol and ammunition while travelling to Mendhar. Influenced by radical content posted by terrorists on social media, he wanted to join militancy," said Jammu defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand.

Considering the youth's age and in a humane approach to the issue, no FIR was lodged in this connection. Cops counselled the teen, advising him to lead a normal life and shun violence.

"This major success of the security forces in preventing the misguided teenager from joining terrorism will dissuade other Kashmiri youth from falling prey to extremist propaganda," Anand said.
